Concours d'Elegance - 1971 CoomaRobert WoodsSapphire MK I100:00:00C341798 A new perpetual trophy for the person who travelled the longest distance to attend the Rally was awarded to Robert Woods who came from Port Moresby to Sydney by plane. His car was garaged at Wellington NSW and after picking it up, he travelled via Melbourne, Hobart and Adelaide and then back to Cooma to attend the event (Robert has obviously a very poor sense of direction and/or no GPS). The Mk1 Sapphire travelled around 4,200 kilometres on this journey.

Leaving Perth in his Mk2 Sapphire, he first travelled to Rockhampton in Queensland before turning right and travelling South to Wagga Wagga. This incredible tour of just over 6,000 kilometres easily eclipsed his previous two efforts by some 3,000 kilometres, setting a new distance record that has still has not been (and is unlikely to be) beaten. Howards hat-trick of Longest Distance Travelled to the Event awards is an outstanding achievement.

After an amazing 1,300 journey in 1927 14HP, Jack Straughan took yet another (having also won 4 other awards at this rally) trophy home.
