The Hinkler Project Diary

March 21st 2015

On behalf of the ASCC, Sandy Cameron recently travelled to Bundaberg, Queensland to meet the key people involved with the restoration of the 18 HP Mk. II, pictured below in its new pristine state, and again in the early 1960's when it was retrieved from a Red Hill vegetable garden.

The car has now been fully disassembled, sand blasted and the chassis is now finished in grey undercoat.

Tom Smethurst, the donor of the Hinkler car to the Hinkler House Museum, has asked for assistance in sourcing missing parts. At the present time, a speedo, and oil pressure gauge, and a Lucas tail light are required. Please email Tom if you are able to assist.

Update: March 3rd, 2018

After 3 years of dedicated efforts by the vehicle enthusiasts of the Bundaberg Vintage Vehicle Club, restoration of AS40760 has been completed and the vehicle is now on display at the Hinkler Hall of Aviation.

Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources, David Littleproud officially launched celebrations of the rebuilt vehicle at the Bundaberg Civic Centre at 9am on March 3rd, 2018 before the car led a parade down Bourbong St, Bundaberg, QLD.
